White as Snow

What’s your favorite thing about a snow day? Maybe it’s going outside to build a snowman or go sledding. Perhaps it’s making delicious snow cream to share with your family. Or, at the very least, it’s not having to go to work or school!

While I love to do all of those things on snow days, perhaps my favorite thing to do is simply watch the snow fall. Over the course of the day, you get to see lawns, driveways, sidewalks, and trees become covered in a layer of pure, white snow. Regardless of how bad the grass looks, how wimpy the trees are, or how beat up the sidewalks may be, a layer of snow covers up those things and turns them into something beautiful.

In many ways, that’s what happens to sinful people like us when we place our faith in Jesus. It doesn’t matter how old we are, what we look like, or what our sins may be. When we place our faith in Jesus, He takes the things that don’t look right in our lives and He covers them with His forgiveness and love.

While there may not be a physical change like there is with a snowfall, there is a spiritual change that accompanies placing our faith in Jesus. No longer are we defined by our sins or imperfections, rather, we’re defined by God’s love for us. And because of that love, we now choose to live each day for Him, not ourselves.

As you take time today to play in the snow, take a moment to look around and think about these words from Isaiah 1:18. And as you do, lift a silent prayer of praise to the God who paid the price for your sins and offers you forgiveness and love in their place.

“Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”
