How You Can Help Haiti

Roughly an hour and a half to the west of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, lies the community of Grand Goâve. Situated amongst mountains and the coast, this region of Haiti is often overlooked – creating a pocket of need for healthcare, nutrition, education, and more. Ministering in this area of great need is Jenny Jenkins, a Cooperative Baptist Fellowship missionary that we’re proud to be partnering with over the next several years.

Since her arrival in Haiti years ago, Jenny has used her God-given skills (including her background as a registered nurse) to partner alongside church and community leaders throughout Grand Goâve to bring healing and hope to those who need it the most. Currently, her ministry is focused around three areas of need: healthcare, education, and housing.

At present, Jenny is working alongside partners in Haiti and back in the states (such as our church), to address these needs, especially those related to healthcare. In recent months, the first phase of a multi-phase project to build a free healthcare clinic in this region was fully funded and work to prepare the site is already underway! While working on this lofty goal, Jenny continues to equip churches like ours to come and work alongside Haitian leaders as they minister to children, widows, and other vulnerable people groups throughout Grand Goâve.

Recently our Senior Pastor, Mark White, and Brad Hibbs completed a site visit to meet with Jenny and explore what their greatest needs presently are and how we can help. While there, Mark was able to film this brief video with Jenny, I hope you’ll take a look!

This site visit, and our conversations with Jenny thus far, are all building towards our first mission trip in support of this new partnership. From November 9 – 16, Forest Hills will be taking a team of roughly 15 people to advance several of Jenny’s goals (the exact nature of our work is contingent upon the gifts, skills, and abilities of our team members).

If you haven’t already, I hope you’ll begin praying about whether God is calling you to join us on this inaugural trip to Haiti. It will be a wonderful time to learn more about what God’s already doing, to join Him in that work, and to get a better sense of how we can better support the people of Grand Goâve over the next several years. Details of our trip are located below:
