What a FULL HOUSE! Sixty-one folks from around the globe came to Wednesday night for English Class, 54 adults and 7 kids! Did you know not everyone is from the University?
A brand new family group of 5 from Pakistan joined the class for the first time last Wednesday. After greeting and welcoming them, I was curious how they learned about our English Classes. After class, a lovely devoted volunteer teacher explained their story.
Several weeks ago, while shopping in her neighborhood Walmart, the cashier recognized her in the checkout line. Little did she know, but as per usual, she had been kind to the cashier the previous week, and the cashier remembered! A relationship had been built! Our teacher noticed that the lady might be interested in English Class, so she gave her our flier on the spot, and invited her to Forest Hills for class.
Fast forward several weeks to Wednesday night.... The cashier AND her sister's family of 4 showed up for English classes! Our teacher had almost forgotten that she offered the flier and invite! This happened because someone took time to welcome and share an invitation!
1 Peter 3:15 inspires us to: always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
Who do you meet when you are in line? Do they need an invitation to church, a relationship with Christ?
Fred Olds School Ministry
If you are interested in helping with the Fred Olds School Ministry, please email Shannon Bellamy. Opportunities include, tutoring, preparing goodies for teachers, among other things as needs occur. They could use homework helpers after school from 3:30pm to 4:40pm. All volunteers with students will need to register as a volunteer with Wake County Public School. Registration can be completed at any Wake County school before October 30th.
Wednesday Night Suppers Volunteers Needed
Looking for an opportunity to serve others, meet new people and in the process share God's love? Did you know that it takes over 35 hours of volunteer time each week to help prepare, serve and clean-up in support of the Wednesday Night meals? The meal, fellowship time and prayer/bible study have always been an important part of the ministries of FHBC. To support this we are looking for some regular volunteers (once a month) to help Greet, Serve and/or Clean-Up. Come lend a hand, enjoy the fellowship and experience the satisfaction of serving your brothers and sisters in Christ. Please contact Tom Revak for more information.
Contemporary Worship Volunteers Needed
Got 30 minutes on Sunday? The Contemporary Worship Team is looking for a few volunteers to help setup and cleanup after the worship service each Sunday. The duties involve setting up the chairs, preparing the coffee, putting signs up around the church, and then putting things away afterwards. Most of the tasks can be completed in 15-30 minutes and help to make the worship a comfortable and welcoming environment, and it's a simple way to contribute to the worship experience of the FHBC Community. To sign up, visit the board in the Fellowship Hall. Please contact Tom Revak for more information.
The Ushers team is seeking additional smiling faces and warm hearts to greet worshipers and pass out bulletins as they arrive for the 11:00 AM worship service in the Sanctuary. It's a simple, yet very important task as the ushers are the first faces that guests and members see going into the Sanctuary. Those wishing to help can do so on a rotational basis, being at a door by 10:40 AM. Please contact Ms. Eileen Brinkley for more information about helping with the Ushers team.
Visuals Ministry Volunteers Needed
Did you see that?! Yes, visuals are a prime means of communication in today's world, and the Visuals Ministry aids both the Contemporary and Sanctuary worship services with an array of visuals to make the services more engaging to participants. But this team is in need of helpers to provide these visuals. No previous experience required, and training will be provided. Please contact Ms. Janna Edwards for more information about helping with the Visuals Ministry.
Volunteer Needed To Maintain Rose Garden
