Worshiping with Children and Families at Forest Hills Baptist Church

At Forest Hills, we believe children are an important part of our worshiping community. We value worshiping together as families and want every child and caregiver to feel welcomed, supported, and included from the moment you arrive. Whether this is your first Sunday or you have been visiting for years, we hope you will feel at home here.

Children are Welcome

Sunday Mornings

We know visiting a new church can feel overwhelming, especially for families with young children.

At Forest Hills, we want every family to know they are welcome, valued, and supported as part of our community.

ABOUT Worship

Worship Together as a Family

We encourage children to fully participate in worship. Most Sundays, there is a Children’s Sermon during the service where children are invited forward for an interactive, age-appropriate message.

After the Children’s Sermon, children may:

  • Return to their seats with their family
  • Visit Worship Care if desired
  • Continue participating in worship in the sanctuary

Toward the end of most worship services, children are also invited to participate in a response time with the Children’s Minister at the front of the sanctuary as part of the congregation’s response stations. Children are welcome to walk forward and participate, and after they finish, they may return to their seats with their families.

Participation is always optional, and children are never required to come forward.

At Forest Hills, we understand that children experience worship in many different ways. Children’s voices, movement, curiosity, and questions are welcomed and celebrated here.

Family Worship Options

We offer flexibility in worship options for families. Choose which one you feel most comfortable with.

  • Worship Care (Birth–Pre-K)

Worship Care is available during worship services for children from birth through Pre-K and begins immediately following Sunday School.

As you exit the front of the sanctuary, Worship Care is located down the preschool hallway. Our Worship Care volunteers have all received background checks and training to help provide a safe, welcoming environment for children and families.

Children are always welcome to remain in worship with their families. Worship Care is simply an option available for families who would like to use it during part or all of the service.

  • The Worship Cart

To help children engage in worship, we provide a Worship Cart filled with materials designed for a variety of ages and needs.

Children are welcome to choose a bag and fill it with items they would like to use during worship. At the end of the service, items can simply be returned to the cart.

    The Worship Cart may include:

    • Personalized children’s bulletins connected to the worship service
    • Coloring supplies
    • Sensory and fidget items
    • Puzzles and quiet play materials
    • Building and creating activities
    • Books
    • And more

We created the Worship Cart to support families as they worship together and to help children participate in ways that are meaningful and engaging for them.

  • Flexible Seating

Flexible seating is available in the back of the sanctuary for families who may feel more comfortable with additional space to move around during worship.

    Families are welcome to sit:

    • In the pews throughout the sanctuary
    • In the flexible seating area in the back
    • Wherever they feel most comfortable

The flexible seating area also allows children easier access to the Worship Cart during the service.

  • Family Resources and Accessibility

    • A changing table is available in the women’s bathroom alcove along the preschool hallway.
    • First aid kits are located at the front of the sanctuary and inside the Worship Care room.
    • If you need assistance at any time, please speak with an usher, volunteer, or minister.

We know visiting a new church can feel overwhelming, especially for families
with young children.

At Forest Hills, we want every family to know they are welcome, valued, and supported as part of our community.
